I ask myself this question every six months, when I am organizing, getting rid of and sorting through my clothing. What does every woman need in her wardrobe? As people who read my posts regularly should know, I love to research things and post my findings. Today I researched this very question and after going through many lists and articles and posts, this is what I have found.
First off, every woman (or man for that matter) should have:
Outfits for the following occasion: (all approximates)
7 Work
2 Business (Suit)
1 Court
5 Church
2 Interview
4 Working out
3 Relaxing at Home
1 Doing dirty work
4 Sleeping
10 Everyday
4 Going out
As far as individual articles of clothing I found this:
As for Tops:
Approximately 13 Tee-shirts: Black, white, grey, colorful, vnecks, crew necks, graphic tees and work worthy tees.
Five Chill Tees for when you’re relaxing at home.
Six Blouses/Dressy tops: including a crisp white button up shirt, two shells/high neck in black and white and others
In the Pants & Shorts Department:
Approximately Six Jeans: including different fits and washes, Jeggings and Your Perfect Jeans. A pair of sweat pants to match with a chill tee for loungability.
A pair of Black Pants, Khaki Pants and Brown Pants and at least one being good pair of tailored trousers.
Six pairs are also good to have including cuffed, neat, destroyed, and three athletic pairs.
Skirts & Dresses:
Approximately Four Skirts: A Black Skirt, Denim, bubble, pencil, high waisted, tutu, etc. And Approximately Six Dresses: including your little black dress, classic dress, party dress, sundress, casual dress, a formal gown.
Tights & Leggings:
Tights: black opaque, white, gray acid wash/static, colored, and lace.
Black Leggings are a necessity these days.
Under Clothing & Night Clothing are pretty simple and more of a personal preference thing. It also depends on how often you want to do laundry.
No matter what though you need the following types of articles of clothing:
Under Tank Tops and tee shirts, Long underwear, and Spanx.
Sexy Undies & Bra, Cute Everyday Undies & Bras are obviously very important.
Some Bras that are also great to have are the Strapless Bra, One plunge bra/one seamless bra and A Well-Fitted, Flesh-Colored Bra. Socks in different styles and colors can be added to the list as well and for sleeping Pajama Pants, Silk camisoles, underwear/nightwear/lingerie, and a cozy robe.
Swim:
Beach Pants and/or a Swim Cover-ups are great and easy pieces to have and wear.
As is what goes under them, a Swimsuit and its great to have one simple and one sexy.
Outerwear:
Depending on where you live you will need a Winter coat. As for me, I live in Utah, this item is extremely necessary. Noted many places, a Knee Length Jacket/ Trench Coat and a Pea coat are also coats you’ll want to have in your possession.
Approximately Eight Jackets: including a well cut fall/spring jacket, 3 hoodies, a windbreaker, motorcycle jacket, leather jacket, bomber jacket, blazer and denim jacket.
Approximately Four Cardigans: chic, loose fit, fitted, long, bolero style, cropped, and open. As well as about three Vests: menswear vest, knit vest, and cardigan.
Accessories & Extras:
Make up: Volumizing mascara
Nail Polish: Red, Glitter, Neon Color, White, Favorite Color of Choice
Gloves: Leather gloves, Mittens, Snow, Knit finger gloves, Lace, Elegant.
Belts: Wide patent, brown, black, thin braded leather.
Jewelry: A vintage brooch, Diamond Earrings, Pearl Earrings, A beret, Large cocktail ring, A diamond ring, A statement necklace and Sunglasses.
Scarves: Winter and fashion styles.
Hats: Knitted cap, Other.
Bags: Beach, Hobo, satchel, clutch, shoulder bag, tote, tan, black, white.
Two other basics are a good hair dryer and an umbrella.
And last but DEFFINITELY not least, A list of shoes needed (and if you’re like me, you REALLY need them. I’m a shoe type of girl) are:
Slippers
Flats in basic and assorted colors
A Pair of sexy heels, High Heel boots, Black High Heels (MUST) and other heels
Simple court shoes and/or Loafers
Gladiator Sandals, Flip Flops and Other Sandals
Black flat boots and Other flat boots
Good winter shoes/boots and Rain boots
Walking/hiking shoes, Gym shoes, Sneakers and Work Shoes
Oh and one more thing. Donate your old clothes people. If you haven't worn it in six months and its not a keep sake, get rid of it. If it doesn't fit, get rid of it. Easy as that and if you have much more than what I've listed (It's a really long list so hopefully not too much-- pack rattin' shopaholics), you know what you got to do.
