When I graduated High school I had no idea what to do with my life, what my college major would be or what I wanted to be when I "grew up". Once I started at my university I discovered Public Relations. I had no idea what it was but I talked to some classmates and counselors and decided to try it out. I chose it as my major and I am so glad. I have always lived a fast paced life. I have always be creative and loved art, design and writing. I love gaining new knowlege and I love networking, communicating, social networking and new technology. I was also raised by a business woman. I have had a budget, calendar and resume since I was like eight years old. All of these things make me who I am and all of these things make PR what it is.
PR is Innovative, Fast Paced and Design Oriented. It aloso involves a lot of Writing, Communicating, Networking, Social Networking, New Technology, Creativity, Business, Strategy, Budgeting, and Calendaring.
Some othger great things are:
- The PR world needs both newbies as well as the old and experienced.
- Everyone needs PR people.
- People trained and skilled in PR have a very wide spectrum of tasks, abilities and knowlege.
- It incorporates the knowledge of many departments and a person who starts out in the public relations department would not find it difficult at all to migrate into any other department of their choice.
- And PR is important to society and the businesses and figures within it.
Why were important to them:
- PR is the most economical way to reach mass audiences
- It stimulates awareness of and demand for your company products or services
- Develops a stronger, more controlled image for your firm
- Creates the perception that the company is active, "on the move" • Has seven times the credibility of advertising, studies show
- It provides an advantage over competitors who do not use ‘P.R.’ effectively
-Overall it brings credibility, visibility and valuation to whatever they are doing.
And you would think that was it, but there is so much more. This career is so complex but its fascinating and thriving and fun. I would highly reccomend it to anyone and everyone, especially if you're at all like me.
